Taking Shape
May 9 – June 29, 2017
Taking Shape is a group show that highlights ceramists and clay based sculptors. The purpose is to bring attention to the diversity of clay artists who work abstractly, realistically, experimentally, expressionistically, but all exclusively in the medium of clay.
The display ranges from traditional pottery to figurative to contemporary installations. Pottery, traditionally, was the main usage for clay; they were meant to be solely utilitarian pieces that would ultimately find it's way to the dinner table. From handicraft dinnerware, it led to a more expressive artistic practice. The step to fine art has been a long, continuous road. In our exhibited show, you will discover a few of these steps.
